Thoughts and Prayers

Stop saying thoughts and prayers

We’ve all heard it enough

I know you don’t mean to be malicious

But it doesn’t come from a place of love

The words reflect complacency

A lack of desire to act

To put a stop towards the injustice

To take a stand and react

Saying thoughts and prayers

May not change the past

But it also doesn’t aid the future

To which more tragedy is forecast

If we don’t change the way we do things

Our policies and ideals

Imagine if it was your child

Your loved one

How devastated you’d feel

And yet you remove yourself emotionally

Vote for the opposite of change

While the rest of us mourn once more

And turn our tears to rage

As we scream for a better life

For ourselves and for our heirs

And yet all you decide to do

Is say my thoughts and prayers

Imagine if it was your child, your loved one, how devastated you’d feel
