About The Author

Kaitlyn DeMeyere (pronounced Dee-My-Yer) is a poet born and raised in the Puget Sound Region. Monday through Friday you can find her working with children, a work she is passionate about. In her free time you can find her in the mountains exploring, with friends, writing, and bowling. In her early thirties, Kaitlyn believes life is about getting out there, owning who you are, and trying new things.

While her love of poetry sparked from a dark place, that is, a mental health incident in 2023, she has grown to love writing poems not just about sadness and depression, but about hope, self love, growth, self discoveries, and even politics that she’s passionate about.

Kaitlyn believes her poetry allows her to be who she truly is. It allows her to dig into the depths of her soul and discover more and more about herself each day. It allows her to connect with people. To inspire people, to let them know they’re not alone, to encourage them. It is a beacon of laughter, of joy, of sadness, of sorrow, of grief, of anxiety and of love. And no matter her career, no matter what school path she chooses, poetry will always be there, waiting for her. A friend with arms wide open.

You can find Kaitlyn performing at local poetry open mics and professionally at Drunken Owl performances in Seattle, Washington, the place that took a chance on her and allowed her a start in the poetry world, to which she will be forever grateful. Finally, Kaitlyn leaves you with this quote.

“So to the typical old question of “what do you do” I answer this: I do what makes me happy. I do what brings me joy, what protects my peace, and what continues my legacy. And if someone were to ask me what am I? I’d have just one thing to say. I am a poet.”
