“Love Made Her Fight For Her Life

Love made her fight for her life

Her heart is a block of ice

The bruises from her lover’s fist

She told love she had to call it quits

Love is suppose to comfort you

Protect you and keep you safe

She felt like love kept her in a cage

There was nowhere to run and hide when her lover went into a rage

The lies she had to tell

She was going through hell

Her eyes were swollen shut

Bruised with stitches and cuts

How could she endure this abuse?

She blamed herself for everything

Trying not to make him mad

She had to find a way to escape

Before she ended up dead

No one should be treated like that

Love is not suppose to kill you

She doesn’t want love anymore

Her memories are painful and sore

Our featured poet for the month of December and January is: Cedric Henderson!

What I really liked about this poem was that in even a short few lines, Cedric really captured the idea that you should love on yourself above all else. That even though it won’t be easy, it is extremely important. He even entices the reader with the qualification in his title, “4 the people who want to heal.” Who wouldn’t want to read a poem after reading that? This is fantastic work, and I strongly encourage everybody to go check out his book.
