“No Perfection In My Reflection”

(From the pain I dealt with in my past)

I was standing in front of the mirror

Looking at myself in the reflection

Saying I hated myself

I was crying uncontrollably

I wanted to release the pain I felt

Asking myself how did I get here

The tears from my soul

They held so much pain

The pain was too deep

My soul was tired

I was tired of crying myself to sleep

I didn’t know how to heal

All I knew is what I feel

So I prayed to God because he was the only one listening to me

I know I’m not perfect

I have my flaws

Help me change my heart

I’m going through these storms alone

I can’t do this on my own

Please take this pain away from me

Thank you God for listening to me

Our featured poet for the month of December and January is: Cedric Henderson!

What I really liked about this poem was that in even a short few lines, Cedric really captured the idea that you should love on yourself above all else. That even though it won’t be easy, it is extremely important. He even entices the reader with the qualification in his title, “4 the people who want to heal.” Who wouldn’t want to read a poem after reading that? This is fantastic work, and I strongly encourage everybody to go check out his book.
